Plot Summary: FBI Special Agent Heather Wallace has been tracking a serial killer for three years. Within a matter of days, two of the killer's victims are found near a goth club called Inferno in New Orleans, and Heather believes that Dante, the club's owner and rock star god, is somehow involved. Dante is a vampire, or nightkind, and he has no memory of his childhood aside from splintered fragments that surface sporadically. As the plot thickens, we keep meeting sinister characters who all want a piece of Dante, because he is far more than just a vampire.I finally got around to reading "A Rush of Wings," which has been on my list ever since I read "In the Blood," the second book in the Maker's Song series. I really don't recommend reading them out of order like I did, but sometimes I have to take the books as they come, and not necessarily in order. I was worried that the first book wouldn't be as explosive as the second, but my fears were put to rest. This novel had a ton of action, and it wasn't all saved up just for the ending either. This series will appeal to PNR fans who like their vampire worlds dark, gory, and intense. Since that's my favorite flavor, I have to say that this has become one of my can't-wait-to-read-more series. However, I think it's fair to give warning that Phoenix turns a hot spotlight on some pretty evil stuff. So while it's not a light, fluffy read, what it does offer sucked me in completely until I had consumed every word. Think of this as a NC-17 rated book, and it's due to the violence, sex, language, drug use, and any other sin you can dream up.Dante ranks right up there among the most complex and unpredictable characters I've ever have the pleasure to read. Somehow I'm completely attracted to this guy who would normally repel me under any other circumstances. I don't understand it, but I am a believer when Phoenix describes Dante's magical affect on people, because I feel the same way! He sounds so unbelievably sexy, like pheromones are just oozing out of his pores, and I spent half the time fantasizing about jumping his bones. If you read both books, and become hooked like I am, you'll have to wait until December 09 to read the third installment, "Beneath the Skin." *Sigh*
