...and I'm still shocked. I may not get over it. I thought I had been had. I picked this up because I thought it was the super tough, heavy, even heat distribution cast iron that we all know and love. I pictured myself cooking up some waffles over an open flame, cowboy-style out on the range. This is not what I thought it was. It's not any type of cast iron that I'm familiar with. It's very lightweight and seems to be made of some type of plastic polymer. Is there such a thing as cast iron mixed with plastic? I really have no idea what it's made of but, surprisingly, it handles open flame on my stove really well. There was no scorching or damage to the pan after 40 minutes of use.I made some sourdough waffle batter and they came out pretty good. I had some trial and error starting out. Had a couple of times where I didn't fill the pan with enough batter and had a few times where some batter got stuck inside after most of a waffle released ok. The waffles were thick, puffy with nice coloring depending on how long I left it on the heat. My only complaint really was how slow going it was but I'll chalk that up to the thickness of my batter and my own skills. The pan feels kind of cheap but performs like a champ.
