Previously we had supported the mat by hand, but as our designs get more complicated, it has become a tedious task. This tray was designed to fix that problem. We found it especially useful when cutting intricate paper designs as those would lift and tear when bent. This is perfect! I really tried to read a lot of reviews on similar extensions for my Cricut Maker prior to purchasing this item. I know I chose the right one compared to all the others for my Maker. I don't use it for my 12x12 mat because mine doesn't bend much at all. I do use it for my 12x24 mat and I love it. It's enough to give it just a little more added support. It's as sturdy as it can be for a "add-on" product. I think everyone needs to realize and appreciate this until Cricut themselves development one. Which, I'm surprised they have not. I always take it off when not in use, store it in my Cricut compartment, as it is super easy to snap together and a very sturdy product for what it is meant for. I would highly recommend!
