The OEM ice maker for several year model Samsung units were defective, allowing warmer air from the refrigerator to leak into the ice maker. This cause ice built up on the bottom of the ice maker and freezing up of the ice tray. This upgrade unit provides parts to replace the defective inferior designed parts, along with food grade silicone to seal the seam between the refrigerator and the ice maker.Just make sure you let the old ice maker completely thaw out or use steam ONLY to remove the old unit. It's about a one hout job if there is no ice built up to give you difficulty in removal, like it did with me. YouTube has several instructional videos that were very helpful with this DIY job.
