This review is for the digital music review only (not the CD or Vinyl versions). I am a huge fan of The Black Crowes. However, not being a fan of re-releases, I absolutely dismissed this as another "anniversary" cash grab that every album that ever made a mark seems to do now. Months after this album came out, "Charming Mess" (the single that was released to promote this) landed on one of my streaming services and I absolutely loved it. When I found out it was from this re-release, I relented and gave it a listen. I absolutely made a mistake by dismissing this anniversary re-release. I wish I had bought it months ago when it came out. I don't hear much of a difference between my original copy of "Shake your Money Maker" and the remastered version of the album, but the real gem here is the live concert album included as disc 3. Wow, they sound great on that live record! So much so, that I'm surprised they never released that show as a live album before now. The unreleased rarities album (disc 2) is pretty good as well, the songs all capture that same raw, Stones-like energy that the Crowes had on their first record, and the demos/acoustic versions of the older songs are interesting to see how these songs evolved. If you are a Black Crowes fan, check this out for the live concert alone. If you have never listened to the Black Crowes, this is a great place to start.
