So I received this Babycakes Pop Maker yesterday and today I've tried my first cake pops. I've used a Betty Croger Chocolate Cake mix to start but I'm planning to try different recipes. I just wanted to practice and see what the result is.It is not so difficult to get the right amount in to the holes. Better a little bit more than less because with less cake mix you'll have a weird shape. The "saturn" rings are not a big issue. You can easily cut them with scissors (I've shared some photos) and if you'll cover them with chocolate or candy melts it doesn't really matter.I found that the right amount is slightly before the borderof the mold.Next the sphere issue. I usually do cake pops the "traditional" way and to be honest they never are so perfectly rounded (I'm not a professional of course but I've made quite a few). So in this case I think that the shape is pretty good.Gravity here is the key :-) On the bottom the balls are perfectly rounded because the cake mix just "sit" on that. So I've tried to put it upside down: I first let the mix bake for 2 minutes and then I flip the Babycakes upside down (I posted a picture to make more clear).You do that very carefully and on a towel and let it like that for other 2 minutes. The balls are perfectly rounded.I think it is the all concept of the other more expensive version of this product.I haven't covered them yet, so I'll probably update my review soon!Have great parties!UPDATE: so I tried to cover the balls with candy melts. Unfortunately it was a disaster. Not being the original cake pops made withe original recipe, these balls are not that "heavy" enough to hold when you dip them in chocolate or candy melts. Most of them will broke. I used paper straws instead of the white sticks and out of 20ish I only was able to made 10 not so very cute cake pops. I was disappointed. I will not return this product because the shipping costs are too high and I will probably use this cake pop maker just to do quick snacks for my kids. But not for original cake pops. For them I'll use the "old and real" method you can find online.
