If you haven't tried a french press coffee then you're missing out. The wife and I were introduced to the french press when visiting friends in New Jersey. After that trip I had to have the same coffee maker that our friend had. They too had purchased this brand and this maker from Amazon and ever since getting this coffee maker I don't make coffee any other way. This is a nicely made, heavy product. Although it doesn’t keep coffee hot all day, it does keep it hot for a few hours or to finish a meal, which ordinary French presses do not. Love this French press. We have purchased for friends and family. Recommend this produce over a conventional French press. This thing is WAY better than your standard glass french press. It brews a high volume, enough for two people. It keeps the coffee hot for much longer than your unjacketed presses. It’s just as easy to clean as any other press, but can be disassembled for deeper cleanings. It’s an excellent buy for anyone who wants to brew a high volume of quality coffee and keep it HOT.this is the best little French press. Rich full coffee. No grounds in my cup. I just love it.With it NOT being glass, you don't have to be so careful. Easy to get the grinds out, super easy to clean, and no worry when traveling since it will not break!!Been using my new coffee makers for a few weeks and I am very pleased with them. Yum, there's nothing like a good cup of coffee. My eight year old Cuisinart automatic drip with thermal carafe was failing so I started researching auto drip coffee makers. My old machine was the Cuisinart that had a built in coffee grinder however I had given up grinding the beans with the machine after a few months of using it because for some reason I'd find the brewed coffee had overflowed all over the counter, cabinets and floor and I'd have a huge mess to clean up. It had something to do with the grinder and didn't happen every time but I dreaded it so when I stopped using the grinder it never overflowed again. While checking the reviews for every auto drip with thermal carafe I could find, that was the first thing I looked for and sure enough many people complained about this happening to them due to some stupid design flaw. It seems most of them had this problem so they were eliminated from consideration. That pretty much left one Zojirushi machine but it's expensive and it had other problems that made me hesitate. So I kept looking. It took weeks and I figured if my Cuisinart stopped working I'd just live with instant because I couldn't make up my mind. It was so frustrating.I looked into presses too but it was so hard to decide due to the problems people pointed out in the reviews. I finally decided against a glass press because somebody said theirs exploded while pressing down on the plunger giving them third degree burns. Even the remotest possibility of this happening to me was enough to say nope. So based on the 1500 ml size and the great reviews I finally decided on this press. Just in case, I also bought a 10 cup Melitta manual drip coffee maker thinking that I might not like something about the press like the cleaning of it or whatever.I love the coffee press! I finally have the recipe and technique down and it makes delicious coffee. I got rid of my old Cuisinart grinder and bought the Cuisinart burr grinder. I set it for the largest grind and dump it on a piece of wax paper. When the water boils I immediately pour it into the empty pot and let it sit there for a minute to heat up the pot. I pour the water back into the electric kettle and test the water temp. Doing that cools the water to about 200 degrees. I pour the ground coffee into the pot, start the timer for five minutes, pour in the water, wait 30 to 45 seconds and stir it. Then finish steeping and plunge. I immediately pour the cups and put the rest of the coffee in a vacuum carafe. It's fast and easy to make. As far as the clean up it's not as daunting as I thought it would be. I don't like to waste water so I heat up some in the microwave. Meanwhile I rinse the plunger mechanism under the faucet to get off as many grounds as possible. I take it apart and put the pieces in a small bowl in the sink. The long plunger/lid piece is rinsed and dried. I dump the grounds out of the pot into the trash and wipe the rest out with a paper towel. I pour the hot water into the bowl and the pot and add dish liquid. After washing I rinse and dry all the components and set the plunger pieces on the windowsill to dry more thoroughly. I haven't timed it but I would say the whole clean up process takes about five or six minutes. As for the Melitta, it makes great coffee too. I set the grinder in the middle between fine and medium. I've found the actual coffee making process to be more time consuming than the press because you have to be standing there pouring the water into the filter and it takes about ten minutes. I tend to get distracted if I walk away to do something else and can forget to come back to pour more water in. On the other hand however, the cleanup is much easier. The cone and lid go in the dishwasher and I simply wash and dry the pot by hand. I like that my hand fits inside to clean it. I also like that the lid comes apart for thorough cleaning. That is something that always bugged me about the Cuisinart, the thought of all that crud building up inside the lid is gross. I even called them once to complain about that. I'm so glad to be rid of it.In conclusion, the press is faster and easier to make coffee but more time consuming to clean up. The Melitta manual drip is more time consuming to make the coffee but a snap to clean up. Also, the Melitta makes a little bit more coffee than the press. Each method is worth the time and effort for the great coffee they produce. Additionally, both units were very inexpensive and they should last for years without any disgusting muck building up inside that's impossible to clean. This is a sleek, heavy, efficient piece of equipment. I feel like I'm almost out of my income bracket when I use it. The insulation works great, and the pieces are well-machined so the press is smooth and easy. The stainless steel leaves the coffee with a wonderful, clear flavor -- for some reason, better than my old glass-carafe French press did. There's a subtle marking on the lid to make sure you face if the correct way. The ONLY thing I'd change about this would be to put some ounce markings inside for the water. As it is, I measure the boiling water, which should be unnecessary.Heavy duty aluminum pot is easy to clean and keeps the coffee warmer longer than glass. Have recommended this product to family membersHaving now become familiar with this cafetière, after a week of use, I’m pleased to say that I’m super impressed! The heat retention / insulation is phenomenal *only* if you carry out the optional step on the instructions and pre-heat the cafetière by filling it with boiling water. If I do that the coffee stays hot for a couple of hours!! Otherwise it’s luke warm within 30mins. Also; to those that posted reviews saying there is no insulation; the air gap between the double skin *is* the insulation!! (It works for double glazed windows....!) I also upsized from my old 1L (smashed glass) to this 1.5L steel giant, so it took a while to get the ground coffee quantity right for the same taste I was used to. It’s easy to clean - all goes in the dishwasher - and the gauze in the plunger is really good quality. One happy customer here! This pot is *not* insulated! I've only realised this too late and having used it. The tea (yes I'm using it for loose tea) gets cold far too quickly and having belatedly knocked against it it is clear that there is no insulation in the gap between the inner and outer surfaces. That's really disappointing and although it works well as a cafetière it does not keep hot drinks warm as long as it would were it properly insulated. Disappointing.Unlike a lot of stainless coffee presses this one pours like a dream. A lot of attention went into the design and manufacture to ensure it works well. Also it is large enough to supply everyone in the house in one go.Had cause to contact Amazon recently regarding the purchase of this product and they said that I would need to contact yourselves concerning this. Unfortunately I cannot find the message that they sent me with a telephone number to contact, and I am currently unable to use the coffee press at the moment as the threading the baseplate of the filter assembly is not holding and the it keeps dropping off. Is the base section available as a replacement or is the pot only fit for scrap.I hope you can help in this matter.Ian parkinAfter breaking multiple glass french presses, that never made more than 3 cups of coffee I came across this Secura French Press. This is the best Amazon purchase I have ever made. The highlights:1. MAKES 1.5 L!! I no longer have to make coffee in "batches" when hosting guests2. INSULATED! My boyfriend and I wake up at different times so often I drink the coffee 1 hour after he made it and it's still warm3. EASY TO CLEAN/ DOESN'T BREAK. You can put this in the dishwasher - you never need to worry about it breaking like the glass ones!4. BEAUTIFUL! I was going to get a plastic French press after breaking multiple glass ones but the plastic ones stain and just don't look as nice. This shiny silver looks beautiful and doesn't tarnish or rust. Easy to clean and shine!INVEST IN THIS FRENCH PRESS YOU WON'T REGRET IT!Needs a long brush to clean it, and a long spoon too, to stir with. Prone to stains from the water, and the closed lid arrow is a bit faint to see clearly. Otherwise it does the job for 4 cups of coffee.
